What is super visa Canada?

If you want to visit your children or grandchildren in Canada, Parent and Grandparent Super visa is an ideal visa category for you. The Super Visa Canada is a multi-entry visa that provides multiple entries for a period up to 10 years. The best thing about this visa is that in a single visit to Canada, the visa holder can stay for up to 5 years (at a time) in Canada.

Note- With effect from July 4, 2022, Canadian government has increased the length of stay for super visa holders. If you apply on or after July 4, 2022, you will be eligible for a stay up to 5 years at a time.

There are some key requirements for this visa, such as, medical insurance, etc. Hence, you must fulfil all the eligibility requirements mentioned later in this page to apply for Canada super visa for parents. However, if you want to stay for six months or less, Canada visitor visa is better option.

What is the processing time?

Well the Super visa Canada processing time depends on various factors including your country of residence. For an applicant from India it is approximately 171 days. However, this processing time does not include

  • the time it takes to send an application between a visa application centre and IRCC office
  • the time you require to give your biometrics (fingerprints and photo)

Eligibility requirement to apply for Super visa

To be able to apply, you must meet super visa Canada requirements. As an applicant of Canada super visa, you must:

  • be the parent/grandparent of a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
  • Hold a signed letter from your child or grandchild who is inviting you to Canada that comprise the following:
    • An assurance of financial support for the length of your visit
    • the list and number of people in the household of this person
    • a copy of this person’s Canadian citizenship or permanent resident document
  • have medical insurance from a Canadian insurance company that is:
    • valid for minimum one year from the date of entry
    • Minimum $100,000 emergency coverage
    • have proof that the medical insurance has been paid in full (quotes aren’t accepted)

Additionally, you need to:

  • apply for a super visa from outside Canada
  • have your visa printed outside Canada (wait for visa office instructions)
  • be allowed to enter Canada
  • take an immigration medical exam
  • fulfil certain other conditions

Note: You cannot include dependants in Super Visa Application.
